AI Process

I make Art that negotiates the space between reality and abstraction, that asks us to look at the world through new eyes revealing hidden ideas and truths. Working in collaboration with powerful Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology extends my reach and provokes my imagination beyond my dreams. It is in the realm between representation of reality and its disintegration into pure abstraction that we can find interpretations, expanded imagination and tensions, challenging questions and provocations.

This is the space I explore. Together with the AI, we are on a symbiotic journey to become two components of one author, a physical-digital artist stronger than the sum of our parts. This Human-Digital, iterative process, leads us in insightful directions and explorations which neither of us would take independently. Each series starts with a new painting that I ‘feed’ to the AI which in turn offers me its interpretations, from which I develop a second painting, and so on....

Iterative development of a painting series with AI interpretations

If we believe that Art must have a human origin, AI cannot (yet) replace artists for the simple reason they are not human but through the combination of almost limitless computational power and incomprehensible speed they can provide powerful amplifications of our abilities and help us explore previously unimaginable possibilities.

I harness the power of AI to work in collaboration, I produce original works that are amplified and evolved by the AI that feeds off my work and learns from my previous art. The AI provides me with new powerful provocations to feed my thinking for new original work, which, in turn, feeds its creativity. And so on…

Starting each series with a new painting, we begin a creative and confrontational dialogue, pivoting between the human and the digital, making a chain of art works that build on each other and that evolve in unforeseeable ways.
